Eco-lab for Environmental Charter School

13th Annual School of Architecture Steel Deck Competition Finalist

For this eco-lab design competition, we worked in team of two to design a portable eco-lab for the Environmental Charter School using steel deck within a two-day time frame. 

We designed a rotate-and-fold mechanisms to make the lab to be portable and mobile. 

Rotating around a central core, several panels can be deployed and formed an enclosed learning space. The panels transit from opaque metal panels  to translucent poly-carbonate panels, allowing more natural lights to come into the lab. On top of the ceiling panels there are PV panels to convert solar energy to electricity for the lab.
